My career so far has been varied and entrepreneurial. From starting life in Swaziland, a rural developing African country, I progressed to Quality & Project Management and Training Management in large commercial companies in London and Dublin. After undertaking further education, I have established my academic and private business training career in a dynamic and evolving industry I am passionate about – the wellness industry. As my Curriculum Vitae reflects, I am committed to the development of this industry, to training future spa and wellness leaders and to establishing links and engagement within local and national communities. I support integrated healthcare, further public education regarding health and wellness and further research in the complementary medicine arena and intend to continue my progress along this path.

Research:

1999 – 2000: Cape Cod, Massachusetts: Pilot research project with Dr. John Livingstone M.D., (senior faculty at Mclean Hospital/Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry, a graduate of Brown University and Harvard Medical School, and a Fellow of The Royal Society of Health (UK).). Investigated the effects of Aromatherapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) on Post Traumatic Stress Disorders and mental health treatment plans. Resulted in integrating Aromatherapy and EMDR into Dr. Livingstone’s clinical mental health practice. Also resulted in providing advisory recommendations to several mental health practitioners in Cape Cod regarding Aromatherapy usage within their treatment plans.

Conferences:

2012 – 2015: Management and chairing of the Irish Massage Therapist Association yearly national AGM and Conference. Pre-event management and chairing the AGM procedures.

2012 – 2015: Ireland: Irish Massage Therapist Association (IMTA) member magazine: Quarterly articles published, including: EU/HPRA guidelines for aromatherapists relating to retail and prescriptive aromatherapy blending (collaborative); Understanding Research and Critical Analysis; Massage therapist safety; Use of Aromatherapy within mental health treatment plans.

2012 - Current: President of the Irish Massage Therapist Association (Voluntary position): Under my presidency, the IMTA Executive have established several sub-committees to encourage therapist involvement in research (Research Committee) to ensure the maintenance of standards in practitioner education and practice (Education Committee) and to communicate regulatory and compliance information as required by law or as recommended by the IMTA Executive (Regulations Committee). WE have established continuous improvement, increased membership and increased our cooperation with spa and wellness businesses, health insurance providers (Aviva and GloHealth) and wellness groups and associations on a national level.

2010 – 2012: Executive Education Officer of the Irish Massage Therapist Association (Voluntary position): Established Continual Professional Development unit (CPD) criteria and procedures; Established membership categories and criteria for both national and international therapists.

2002 to current: Delivery of industry training (as per above list) to Spas, Wellness Centres and Therapists.
