Chris McDermott

Lecturer in Law

Dr. Chris McDermott joined Athlone Institute of Technology in 2004. He teaches in the areas of child law, family law and human rights law. Chris graduated with a BCL degree from NUI Galway in 2003 and with an LL.M in Public International Law from the University of Edinburgh in 2004. He completed a Ph.D in International Human Rights Law at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, NUI Galway in 2009. He is a qualified Attorney-at-Law (New York) and a legal consultant with New Horizon, an asylum seeker and refugee support group. He previously served on the board of the Irish Refugee Council and was a contributor to the M.Phil in International Peace Studies at Trinity College Dublin.
