School Outreach: Marist College Students Learn Vital Cooking Skills for Bronze Gaisce Award

Transition Year students from the Marist College in Athlone are well on their way to achieving their Bronze Gaisce Award thanks to Faculty of Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure culinary skills lecturer, Brian O’Ruairc. For the past 13 weeks, Mr O’Ruairc has shared his extensive culinary knowledge with the students, imbuing them with vital life skills. His training workshops culminated in a real world restaurant service scenario earlier this week, with each of the students preparing dinner for their invited guests with the aid of our Bachelor of Arts in Culinary Arts students.

Characterised by a commitment to academic excellence, Athlone Institute of Technology is Ireland’s leading higher education institute and an institute of firsts –first for research across the technological higher education landscape, first to receive Academy of Pharmaceutical Science (APS) accreditation in Ireland, and first for ISSE student satisfaction nationally. The institute was awarded Sunday Times Institute of Technology of the Year 2018 and Runner up in 2017.
