Jack Fox: “AIT Helped me Find my Love of Education Again” | Discover Your Story

In conversation with Jack Fox, an AIT Student Ambassador from Ballymahon, Co Longford. Jack is currently studying for a Higher Certificate in Business in Sports and Recreation (Course Code: AL663)

Q1: What do you study and why did you choose it?

I am currently studying for a Higher Certificate in Business in Sports and Recreation. Coming from a sports background, I found it appealing. It’s also a relatively short course which I liked given my previous dislike of secondary school.

Q2: What do you love most about AIT? Is it the people, facilities, supports?

The atmosphere and people are my favourite part of the college, both students and lecturer are extremely helpful and my experience at AIT has helped me find my love for education again.

Q3: What’s one positive experience you’ve had with your course to date?

Going to class is like sitting down with your friends; it’s both educational and fun. Our course has a lot of out-of-class work like sports coaching - where we coach kids, swimming, exercise and fitness. This gives us a chance to be active instead of sitting in a class all day, which I appreciate!

Q4: If you could go back and give your Leaving Certificate self some advice, what would you tell them?

I would tell my Leaving Cert self not to worry. Even without a huge score in your exams there are plenty of ways to get into college through PLC courses and other access programmes.

Q5: Have you gone on placement, worked on any cool projects, or studied abroad through AIT? If so, what/where and what did you learn from the experience?

I’m due to go on placement shortly with the AIT Sport gym and looking forward to learning lots of useful skills and getting an insight into how a gym and fitness classes are run.

Q6: Why should everyone consider coming to AIT?

AIT has loads of clubs, activities and events to help make new friends. It’s a perfectly sized college for someone like me who enjoys seeing their friends daily but it’s still big enough that you get to meet new people constantly.

Q7: What’s one thing you love about being an AIT Student Ambassador?

My favorite part of being an AIT Student Ambassador is helping people who are nervous about college, being able to ask current students about accommodation, education, activities and nightlife, because college should be a mixture of education and fun!
