French Ambassador and Delegation from Universities in France visit AIT

On Monday 30th January, the French Ambassador H.E. Mr Jean Pierre Thébault, a delegation from our French partner university programmes including Fountainebleu University, Mayor of Athlone John Dolan and a host of other guests converged on AIT for a very special visit by the Ambassador who came to visit the 55 students from France enrolled on our programs. AIT currently has 51 french students enrolled in the Faculty of Business & Hospitality and 4 enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics.

Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin commented that, “This is a large figure considering there are approximately 600 French students in Ireland studying in Higher Education Institutes at present and of course we hope to grow this and encourage more students to come and study with us in AIT. I am also pleased to note that ten students from AIT will undertake placements in France during this semester.”

As an Institution, AIT has continually highlighted the importance of international education in the formation of our students. This extends not just to studying overseas, but also to actively engaging with international students who are registered here. That opportunity to develop a global mindset will not alone be of benefit in securing employment, but in positioning Ireland as an outward-looking, open and engaging society.

Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin when speaking to the students said, “I know personally, and am also aware through the excellent work of our International Office, that the French students attending AIT fully integrate into the life of this learning community. They are also an integral part of life in Athlone and I trust that when they return to their own families that their experiences here in Ireland will live long in their memories.”
