AIT and IPAV launch part-time online Bachelor of Business in Real Estate.

A new Degree of Bachelor of Business in Real Estate (Level 7) launched at the IPAV Young Professional Network event in Cork, 27th April.

Against a background of increased residential, commercial and other real estate, the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV) decided to increase the level of qualification available to its member, through the creation of a part-time blended learning degree in Real Estate. This programme is a level 7 Bachelor of Business degree and has been developed in partnership with Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT). This programme builds on the IPAV’s existing Higher Certificate in Real Estate (Valuation, Sales & Management) – Level 6, which has been running since 2013 in conjunction with IT Tallaght.

The BBS in Real Estate is designed to meet the needs of a developing domestic and international property market by producing an articulate, competent, professional graduate
who will be able to operate to professional standards across a range of occupations, including property sales negotiator and property manager in an ever-changing competitive market. Mr Pat Davitt, CEO of IPAV in launching the Bachelor of Business in Real Estate commented ‘that this is a great opportunity for those working in the
industry to further their learning. At the same time, it is reflective of how the real estate industry has evolved over the past number of years, through the creation of appropriate learning programmes such as this degree that is designed specifically to support those working or interested in the sector.’

To ensure the programme is accessible to all members nationally, IPAV and AIT have specifically designed the programme to be delivered in a flexible manner known as blended learning. Scheduled to commence next September, the programme will run over three semesters and will take 15 months to complete. It will be delivered using a blended learning format which is a hybrid teaching and learning methodology that integrates traditional classroom methods, independent learning and e-learning.

The approach involves a combination of interactive online classes that can be viewed via your smartphone, laptop or personal computer, that are also recorded at each session and then uploaded into a virtual learning environment accessible on a 24/7 basis. What is required, however, is good broadband connectivity.

Dr Michael Tobin, Head of Department of Lifelong Learning at AIT added at the launch ‘that this innovative blended learning degree will afford students the opportunity to learn locally on a weekly basis, while also offering them the opportunity to meet students monthly in Athlone Institute of Technology, affording the opportunity to network with their peers in the Real Estate industry – it is a blending of old and new learning methods, an approach that we are finding increasingly popular among the Athlone Institute of Technology part-time learners.’
