2017 AIT Summer School Program of Jianghan University
Athlone Institute of Technology and Jianghan University, Wuhan cooperate on the delivery of a joint programme in Graphic and Digital Design. A group of fifteen students and two lecturers from Jianghan University completed a two week Summer programme in Design at AIT from 13-26 July 2017. The programme was delivered by Design and English lecturers from the Faculty of Science and Health, AIT. This is the second year that a group of students completed a Design programme at AIT and the feedback was very positive. Chinese students enjoyed staying with host families and participated in excursions and cultural activities in the Midlands Region.
In January 2014, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, President of Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) first visited Jianghan University in Wuhan and discussions took place to commence an undergraduate educational program for Visual Design Communication. An application was made to the Ministry of Education and approval was received to commence the first Bachelor degree in Visual Design Communication with an intake of one hundred students in September 2015. Professor Ó Catháin attended the ceremony to launch the Design programme at Jianghan University, Wuhan last October along with representatives from the Department of Education and Skills in October 2015 and October 2016. There will be 300 students studying this Design programme at Jianghan University in September 2017.
Students will have the option of completing their four years of Bachelor degree programme at Jianghan University (4+0) or transferring to Athlone Institute of Technology for their final year of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Graphic and Digital Design programme of study. It is planned that 10-15 students will transfer to the final year of Bachelor of Arts Graphic and Digital Design at AIT in September 2018. The students who completed Summer programme in Design at AIT expressed interest in studying at AIT in the future.
There are a number of business and educational links developing between Co. Westmeath with the visit by the Governor of Hubei Province to Mullingar, Co. Westmeath in November 2015.
