    Incidents & Accidents

    AIT is committed to reducing accidents and ill-health to staff, students & visitors.

    In this regard, Institute procedures are in place to ensure that any accident resulting in personal injury, a Near Miss or a Dangerous Occurrence is reported & subsequently recorded by the Institute. Effective reporting and recording will support AIT management undertaking any necessary investigations to prevent the potential for a similar occurrence.

    Reporting Incidents/Accidents

    In relation to the reporting of Incidents/Accidents in AIT, any member of staff, or student or visitor should follow the steps set out below for; A) Work Place Incidents/Accidents or B) Accidents involving visitors/Contractors/ Service Providers or C) Spots Incidents/Accidents:

    A) For Workplace Incidents/Accidents

    Any member of staff or student should report the incident immediately to one of the following:

    • Their line Manager or Supervisor,
    • Their AIT Academic Supervisor,
    • Their AIT Student Health Centre (Note: - only if attending for first aid treatment)
    • Their AIT Health & Safety Office

    B) For Accidents involving Visitors/Contractors/Service Providers

    • Report the incident to the AIT manager or supervisor responsible for inviting any of the above persons, companies, service providers to AIT.

    C) For any sporting activity which result in a sports injury (examples include; sports activities performed under the direction or in conjunction with the AIT Sports Department):-

    • Report the accident having occurred, to the relevant sports coach or organiser of the sporting event/activity. The AIT Sports Department must also be notified.

    For Workplace Incidents/Accidents

    The Manager or Supervisor in charge of the AIT Unit or area in AIT where the incident occurred, is responsible for ensuring the Institute Incident/Accident Report form is filled out, completed, and submitted to the Institute H&S office within 24 hrs of the incident taking place or as soon as possible. The manager should also ensure a copy of the form is issued to the Office of the Vice-president of Finance & Corporate Affairs.


    For Accidents involving Visitors/Contractors/Service Providers

    The AIT manager or supervisor responsible for inviting any of the above persons, companies, service providers to AIT will in the event of any of one of them being involved in an accident or incident at AIT, complete and submit the incident report form to the AIT Health & Safety Office.


    Sports Injuries

    The Manager for the AIT Sports Department must ensure that the Institute Incident/Report form is completed along with any completed Insurance claims forms and are issued to the Institute Student Resource Centre.
