Each year the Disability & Learning Support Service host an Assistive Technology Boot Camp during the last week of June. The Boot Camp is aimed at second level students who have Specific Learning Difficulties such as Dyslexia or Dyspraxia. It offers them the opportunity to get hands on experience and training in the use of various forms of Assistive Technology including literacy support packages and mind mapping software. Over the three days participants also get to test out Windows accessibility features; MS Word; popular apps and websites; and interactive learning games.
The Assistive Technology Exhibition on the final day allows participants to show their parents and teachers what they learned during the week. The Exhibition also showcases some of the most popular software being used by third level students at AIT including Texthelp Read & Write, Inspiration, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Livescribe pen, and Sonocent Audio Notetaker.
