Team Based Learning

TUS  was one of the first third level universities in Europe to adopt the TBL approach within its programmes. The TBL approach aligns with our objectives of helping to develop graduates who excel at critical thinking and problem solving. It also helps students to reflect upon and develop their teamworking and leadership skills.

Faculties in TUS have implemented TBL in a classroom-based, fully online and blended contexts, in areas as diverse as programming, software engineering, psychology, management, design, science and entrepreneurship.

Since 2017, the CPID has been supporting staff who practice TBL in their teaching.

We assist through:

  • One to One Support: A member of the team can discuss the TBL approach and how it may fit within your module.
  • Technical Support: Looking to implement TBL but need the best technologies to support you? We can advise and help you to incorporate tools such as LAMS, Vevox, Moodle and Zoom within your teaching.
  • The TUS TBL Resource Portal: A dedicated Moodle page, which has resources, links, guidance documents, templates, discussion forums and more to get you started.
  • Workshops, Seminars, and Training Programmes: such as  Introductory TBL workshops, drop in sessions and TBL focused seminars.

With support from the National Forum for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching, staff from the CPID have been working on developing the expertise, resources and infrastructure required to support staff who use TBL. See the link below for more information.

TBL Learning Enhancement Initiative

Staff from the CPID were involved in a project geared towards enhancing teaching in secondary schools through the use of TBL.

Erasmus-funded TBL project

The Team-Based Learning Collaborative is an organization of educators from around the world who encourage and support the use of Team-Based Learning in all levels of education.

The European TBLC is tasked with disseminating Team-Based Learning to educators and educational institutions across Europe, creating a continental TBL network made up of local communities of practice, and provide resources and development opportunities (see below) to TBL practitioners.
