You know that the world needs more high-calibre science graduates. You know that Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) jobs open doors worldwide to satisfying, well-paid careers. You want to study at a pioneering educational institute, the one which offered Ireland’s first degree in Toxicology, and is the only Institute of Technology in Ireland with the authority to award its own PhD degrees in Toxicology and Microbiology.

The Department of Life and Physical Sciences offers Higher Certificate, BSc and BSc (Hons) programmes in a variety of specialisations including Biotechnology, Bioveterinary Science, Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Science, Toxicology and Veterinary Nursing.

At the Department of Life and Physical Sciences our highly qualified teaching and research staff draw on extensive industrial links and experience to cement our relationship with the numerous Biomedical Biopharma and Pharma industries in our region. Employers in these growth areas offer our students industrial placements of real value and real-world application.

We can offer you courses which are recognised by professional bodies including the UK Institute of Biology, the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland, the UK Royal Society of Chemistry, and the Veterinary Council of Ireland. Graduates from our Honours degrees in Toxicology, and Pharmaceutical Science programmes are eligible to apply for Postgraduate Diploma in Education programmes which leads to a career as a secondary school teacher.
