Special Purpose Award of Access Programme Preparatory Programme for Third Level Education
Why take this course?
This is a one-year course. The programme is for mature students. The purpose of the course is to equip candidates with the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to progress onto third level education.
It will provide the opportunity of gaining entry to one of the Institute’s range of Humanities, Science, Engineering or Business Studies courses at Higher Certificate/Ordinary Degree level for the following academic year (on successful completion of all elements of the course, including examinations and in some cases interviews). It provides an understanding of computing, basic technology, science, engineering,business and humanities.
Teaching methods will include a combination of lectures, tutorials, project work and other assignments. The course will be delivered in Athlone Institute of Technology.

- Minimum Entry Requirements:
Mature applicants: Persons 22 years and over on 1st January of the year of entry, with or without Leaving Certificate are eligible to apply.
Persons 21 years of age may apply and are required to have Grade D3 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate, including Mathematics and a language
(English or Irish), or a Fetac Level 5 major award.
The selection procedure will involve an interview at the Institute.
