Why take this course?

Forensic toxicology involves the study of toxins – poisons, drugs, and other substances that have a life-threatening effect on a living being. A forensic toxicologist understands how the rates of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of drugs and chemicals affect living cells and tissues. They will also have studied aspects of the nature of the interaction of toxins with the human body.

AIT has been the home of toxicology education in Ireland for many years. In addition to offering various undergraduate programmes in the area, the institute is also very active in toxicology research via the Faculty of Science and Health, and the Bioscience Research Institute (BRI) located on campus.
