Why take this course?

The programme is designed to meet the needs of a developing domestic and international property market by providing an articulate, competent professional graduate who will be able to operate to professional standards across a range of occupations, including property sales negotiator and property manager in an ever-changing competitive market. It is designed to provide competent professional for the Real Estate industry.

The programme has been developed jointly by the Athlone Institute of Technology and the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV). The Institute of Professional Auctioneers & Valuers (IPAV) is a professional representative body for auctioneers, valuers and estate agents nationwide. The Bachelor of Business in Real Estate is a level 7 award (60 ECTS) developed in collaboration with the Department of Lifelong Learning, Athlone Institute of Technology.

What will I experience?

To provide the students with a knowledge of those business disciplines which form the basis for a successful career in an industrial, commercial or public service setting

• To establish a sound educational framework for a range of careers in the real estate sector.
• To develop work-related skills which students will acquire through their academic programme
• To allow students the maximum opportunity to prepare for their future careers by forming the skills and attitudes necessary for personal and career development in a changing employment environment

What opportunities might it lead to?

A National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) level 7 BBS award in Real Estate enables graduates to move laterally and/or to progress into different fields of core expertise. For example, graduates of the BBS in Real Estate could apply for a Higher Diploma in Marketing or similar, level 8 Higher Diploma and therefore commence a new career in marketing. Alternatively, they could apply for a Higher Diploma in Computing and commence a new career in IT. These are just two of the many options and careers that open up to an individual with a level 7 degree qualification. Additionally, graduates will be able to move horizontally into more senior positions in their own organisations, while also increasing their potential of pursuing a Masters and/or other Professional qualification, as their career progresses. Graduates are eligible to progress to a level 8 Bachelor of Business Studies (Honours), NFQ Level 8, at Athlone Institute of Technology

Additional Information

Three Academic Semesters:

Sept 2018 - Dec 2018; Jan 2019 – May 2019; Sept 2019 – Dec 2019.
Tuesday and Thursday Online from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.
Maximum six Saturdays per semester.

Please note: AIT Induction is on Saturday 22 September 2018 from 9.30am to 5.00pm. Students will be given guidance on all AIT regulations and operating systems on this day.

Attendance on that date is compulsory.
