Why take this course?

This two year programme will provide you with the general business skills required for a successful career in today’s dynamic business environment. It offers students the opportunity to gain relevant business knowledge and skills. You will gain an understanding of the functional areas of business and of the factors which influence business success. Upon graduation, you will be able to use your knowledge and skills for problem solving in a business context. You will also learn how effective interpersonal relations at work contribute to the public image of an organisation and to its progress. You will learn theoretical and practical skills through individual and group projects whilst developing your communication and numeracy skills.

The Faculty of Business and Hospitality is one of the most internationalised on campus, with large numbers of European and Asian students undertaking degree programmes. This brings a global focus to your learning experience. Add to this lecturers’ extensive industry experience and the faculty’s extensive links with industry, commerce and the public sector, which influence and enrich all programmes. Our programmes offer the opportunity to study the major disciplines in business: accounting, finance, economics, management, marketing, and human resources management.

What opportunities might it lead to?

This course helps to prepare you for a career in areas such as general business, accounting, banking, insurance, marketing, management, administration, retail services and computing.

Students wishing to pursue further studies have the option of enrolling on some of the degree courses offered by the Faculty of Business and Hospitality.

Assessment Information

There is a range of different assessments depending on the modules that you choose to study. All modules have a form of continuous assessment allowing feedback on your progress throughout the semester. These include online quizzes, group and individual oral and written presentations, case studies, essays,book reviews, reflective reports, IT practicals and oral examinations in the case of languages. Most modules will have two or three hour final examinations at the end of the semester.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

Grade 06 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate examination. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish).

OR

QQI (FETAC): Any QQI level 5 award with a minimum of Distinction grade in three modules.

Further Study

As a holder of this qualification you will be eligible to apply to join the Bachelor of Business (Level 7) programme at TUS. Alternatively, you may avail of the exemptions granted by one of the professional accountancy bodies and apply for full-time accountancy studies at TUS.
