Do you have a love of horses and the equine industry? Would you like to turn your hobby into a career and work within the racing, breeding or equestrian sport industry? If so, this two-year course could be for you.
What will I experience?
Studying on this higher certificate will provide you with knowledge of those disciplines which form the basis for a successful career in the business and equine sectors. You will be expected to understand the factors which make an equine or a general business organisation successful. You will develop the knowledge and learn the skills required for a career in the wider business sectors. The qualification also provides the necessary foundation for progression to an appropriate Bachelor degree (Level 7), as indicated below. Emphasis is placed on both the theoretical and practical elements of the curriculum throughout the course.
During both years, the linking of the business and equine elements involves attendance at AIT and Gurteen College, Ballingarry, Roscrea, Co Tipperary. http://www.gurteencollege.ie
Year 1 of the course is delivered entirely at Gurteen College which offers students the option of residing at the college and immersing themselves in equestrian life. Year 2 is delivered at the AIT campus, with one day a week spent onsite in Gurteen to continue the immersion in equestrian life.

As a holder of this qualification you are eligible to apply to join the Bachelor of Business in Equine Studies (Level 7) one-year, add-on programme at AIT.

- Minimum Entry Requirements:
Grade 06 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate examination. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish).
Any QQI level 5 qualification is acceptable.

Job opportunities may include employment in equine administration, yard and stud farm management, in the marketing of horses/equine-related products, in transportation, in riding centres, in competition yards, and in equine-based centres/facilities within the recreation, leisure and tourism sectors, as well as in areas of general business.
