This add-on degree addresses the need for technical staff progression education in the production areas of pharmaceutical, healthcare and biotechnology industries, with particular emphasis on good manufacturing practice and manufacturing technology. These staff are responsible for primary manufacturing activities, carrying out primary inspections of products and plant facilities and involved in quality assurance, product testing, trouble shooting and technical problem solving.

The programme focuses on providing education in fundamental and applied aspects of good manufacturing practice, manufacturing technology and relevant science. It also includes professional development in areas such as production management, supervisory management and report writing. It allows for some specialisation in either finished dosage/active pharmaceutical ingredient or biotechnology production.

The programme is relevant for candidates with an appropriate higher certificate in science who wish to gain knowledge of practices within the pharma/biotech sectors, and to staff already working within those industries who wish to obtain more advanced experience.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Holders of an appropriate higher certificate in science or an equivalent Level 6 qualification are eligible to apply.

Process Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Formulation, Process Chemistry and Engineering.

Part 2

Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), Quantitative Methods, Project

plus one module from

Process Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Formulation, Process Chemistry and Engineering.

Progression

When you graduate from this programme, if you wish to further your qualifications in the area of pharmaceutical technology, you are eligible to apply for relevant honours degree (Level 8) programmes in Ireland or abroad.
