Lecture on Nanomedicine at AIT
A leading scientist will deliver a lecture at AIT this Thursday, 4 November, on the interaction of nanoparticles with biological cells.
According to Professor Hugh J. Byrne an understanding of this area is imperative in terms of concerns over potential human and environmental hazards, as well as applications in the emerging field of nanomedicine.
Prof. Byrne, who is the Head of the Focas Research Institute at DIT, will also describe efforts within DIT to establish structure property relationships governing the interaction of polymeric nanoparticles with a range of human cell lines.
He is also DIT coordinator of research efforts under the PRTLI Cycle 4 INSPIRE and NBIPI platforms. He received his BA (1985) and PhD (1989) from Trinity College Dublin, and returned to the position as a lecturer in the School of Physics, DIT after spells as a visiting scientist in the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, and the National Materials and Chemistry Research Institute, Tsukuba, Japan.
The lecture will be held in the institute boardroom from 1-2pm on 4 November. The talk is part of AIT’s research seminar programme, which presents a series of Irish and international researchers discussing their work.
