PASS leader job description

The job of the PASS Leader is to plan, publicise, and facilitate weekly study support sessions for groups of first or second year students in order to help them:

  • quickly adjust to third level life
  • acquire a clear view of course direction and expectations
  • improve their learning and study skills to meet the requirements of their course or programme
  • enhance their understanding of the subject matter of their course or programme through collaborative group discussions
  • prepare better for assessed course work and examinations

For the PASS Pilot Programme, the main responsibilities of the PASS Leader will be to:

  • Run weekly PASS sessions in Semester 2, January 19th to March 23rd , 2009 (your PASS session will be timetabled on the programme)
  • Plan your PASS sessions so that you facilitate group discussions and use a range of interactive small group learning activities, as outlined in the PASS Leader Handbook
  • Provide appropriate advice on independent learning, good study habits, and other learning techniques to your PASS group
  • Maintain contact with members of your PASS group through Moodle
  • Complete a 'PASS Session Review' form after each PASS session and submit them to the PASS Course contact on a weekly basis
  • Attend the training programme for PASS Leaders in January 2009
  • Meet with the PASS Coordinator as required from time to time
  • Provide copies of your 'attendance registers' to the PASS Course Contacts at the end of each week or month: all first years who attend a minimum of seven PASS sessions are entered into a draw to win an iPod or an Xbox
