Background to PASS
AIT's Peer Assisted student Support (PASS) programme is based on the PAL Project developed by Bournemouth University (BU).
BU has had its PAL Project in place since 2001, with the aim of:
- reducing attrition on historically difficult courses
- improving student grades on these courses, and
- increasing graduation rates
PAL at Bournemouth runs on 43 undergraduate courses, with approximately 1,650 students supported by 150 PAL Leaders.
In 2005, BU successfully transferred PAL schemes to two other universities in the United Kingdom (Plymouth and Buckinghamshire New University), and, since 2007, the university provides consultancy services to other third level institutes implementing PAL programmes in the UK and Ireland.
