Athlone IT AC was formally affiliated to Athletics Ireland in July 2008.

Our new Olympic standard athletics track is currently in the final stages of construction and it will be a huge boost to the club members. During the 2007-08 academic year regular ‘Meet & Train Walk/Jog’ sessions were organised for staff and students of all ability levels. This group formed the basis of the new club with many members actively involved in training and competing in 5k, 10k and half marathon events throughout the county.

Athletics Ireland has accepted AIT AC as a ‘Fit for Life’ facilitator for the 2008-09 academic year. The club will be in a strong position to build on the ‘Meet & Train Walk/Jog’ group from last year to provide coaching, training and mentoring especially for beginners or those who have not actively been involved in physical activity for some time.

The ‘Meet & Train Walk/Jog’ group will reconvene at 6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays in September until the Fit for Life Programme formally starts. Participants of all ability levels are very welcome.
