FETAC Level 5 (NCVA Level 2) Qualifications

The following entry arrangements apply to graduates of FETAC level 5 (NCVA level 2) courses seeking admission to courses at AIT.

The minimum entry requirement for graduates of FETAC level 5 (NCVA level 2) awards to:

  • Higher certificate (NQAI level 6) courses is a full FETAC level 5 (NCVA level 2) award
  • Ordinary degree (NQAI level 7) courses is a full FETAC level 5 (NCVA level 2) award
  • Honours degree (NQAI level 8) courses (with the exception of nursing courses) is a full FETAC level 5 (NCVA level 2) award in a course in a cognate area and including a Distinction grade in at least three modules.

In addition to the minimum entry requirements listed above, specific higher certificate and ordinary degree courses may have specific FETAC module or FETAC award requirements. Such requirements are listed on the individual course pages on this website. In the case of entry to honours degree courses, relevant cognate courses and specific module requirements, where relevant, are listed on the relevant course pages on this website. Students are eligible for consideration for entry to nursing courses when they achieve the FETAC level 5 (NCVA level 2) award DCHSN (nursing studies), DCHSX (community and health services) or DHSXX (healthcare support), and obtain a distinction in 5 modules in the FETAC level 5 (NCVA level 2) course, including a distinction in D20001 (anatomy and physiology), D20012 (introduction to nursing) and D20032 (human growth and development or C20006 (biology).

An overall points score is calculated based on the best 8 modules presented. For FETAC Level 5 modules with a credit value of 1, scores awarded are as follows:

Pass:            20 points

Merit:            35 points

Distinction:    50 points

FETAC Level 6 (NCVA Level 3) Qualifications

Graduates of FETAC Level 6 awards intending to apply for a place at AIT should contact the institute in advance for more information in relation to the exemptions available to award holders.
