This degree will prepare you for employment in hotels and other enterprises within the tourism and hospitality industry. The conditions you are likely to encounter in the workplace will be simulated to the fullest possible extent within the course. Supervised work experience placement is an essential element of your studies. This placement, which will be undertaken in Ireland or abroad at the end of the second year, must be completed satisfactorily.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate
Grade D3 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate examination. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish).
FETAC
Any FETAC level 5 qualification is acceptable. There are no specific module requirements.
Modules
Year 1
Tourism and Leisure Studies, Management and Economics, Front Office Operations, Communications and Personal Development, Financial Accounting and IT
plus one module from
French, German ab initio, German, Spanish ab initio, English for Overseas Students (available to international non-EU students only).
A work placement of minimum 10 weeks’ duration in an approved setting is mandatory.
Year 2
Human Resource Management and Business Law, Information Technology, Financial and Management Accounting, Services Marketing, Front Office and Tourism Management
plus one module from
French, German ab initio, German, Spanish ab initio, English for Overseas Students (available to international non-EU students only).
A work placement of minimum 10 weeks’ duration in an approved setting is mandatory.
Year 3
Managerial Finance, Tourism Enterprise Development, Information Technology, Business Management, Tourism and Leisure Management
plus one module from
Tourism Case Studies, Business French, Business German, Business Spanish, International Marketing.
Progression
When you graduate from this programme you are eligible to apply to join the Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Tourism and Hospitality Management (Level 8) programme at AIT or related Level 8 programmes at other third-level institutions.
