The contemporary world has been transformed by developments in IT, wireless communications and personal computing; changes which have been enabled largely by developments in hardware and software engineering.
Computer engineers play a vital role in the research, design, development and installation of the resulting hardware and software. Amongst the areas where computer engineers are employed are mobile phone industry, gaming, medical devices, the internet, smart transport and energy management.
This three-year degree will provide you with the education and training necessary for a career in the computer, software and electronics industry. You will develop the necessary theoretical knowledge in areas that are crucial to computer engineering and you will develop skills in computer systems administration and problem solving.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Leaving CertificateGrade D3 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate examination. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish).
FETAC
Any FETAC level 5 qualification is acceptable. Applicants to this programme are required, however, to have the module Mathematics for Engineering (C20174) or Mathematics (C20139) or Mathematics for Computing (C20175) included in their award or alternatively have Leaving Certificate Mathematics.

Progression
As a graduate you are eligible to apply to join the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Software Engineering (Level 8) at AIT or related programmes at other third-level institutions.
