HSE Community Games National Finals

HSE Community Games National Finals

Welcome from the President of Athlone Institute of Technology

You are very welcome to the HSE Community Games National Finals at Athlone Institute of Technology, the fifth year that the finals have been hosted by AIT.

This has been an incredible year for sport at the institute and in Athlone generally, with Athlone being named European Town of Sport 2013 by ACES Europe, the Federation for the Association of the European Capitals and Cities of Sport. Already this year, AIT has hosted the final of the Irish Daily Mail Sigerson Cup, the Athletics Ireland National Indoor Championships, while in the autumn we are the host venue for the 2013 European GAA Football Championship Finals.

We are really looking forward, therefore, to this weekend’s events which of course see the new AIT International Arena being utilised for the HSE Community Games National Finals for the first time. During the course of the National Indoor Championships in February, Ireland’s remarkable Paralympian Michael McKillop compared the atmosphere in the venue to that which he experienced in London 2012. I have no doubt that that sense of excitement will be repeated throughout the various weekends of the National Finals.

Finally, I would just like to wish the very best to each of the participants. I hope that your experience in the heats and finals of your chosen events is a positive one, and that you enjoy the occasion as much as possible.

I very much look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over this weekend, and hopefully at many HSE Community Games National Finals to come.
