This course will allow you to gain the knowledge and develop the skills required for positions such as secretaries, personal assistants, managers and office supervisors in industrial, commercial and service organisations. Holders of the qualification may reasonably expect promotion to junior management, upon gaining employment experience.

As a student you will obtain an understanding of the principles and practice of office management. You will also develop the skill-set and understanding required to provide the necessary foundation for a successful career in this area. Your understanding of the environmental factors which impact upon the success of a business will be enhanced. Latest developments in office technology and software applications are an integral element of the curriculum. It is possible to obtain Microsoft Office Specialist Expert Master accreditation as part of your studies. A text processing speed of at least 50 wpm is achieved over the duration of the course.

 

Minimum Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate

Grade D3 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate examination. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish).

FETAC

Any FETAC level 5 qualification is acceptable; there are no specific module requirements.

Year 1 – Semester 2

Text Processing*, Learning to Learn, Computer Applications, Business Accounting, Business Management,

plus two modules from

Health Services Administration, Insurance and Banking, French, Spanish ab initio.

Year 2 – Semester 1

IT and Computer Applications, Business Accounting, Marketing,

with an option of

Health Services Administration.

Year 2 – Semester 2

Text Processing*, IT and Computer Applications, Business Accounting, Human Resource Management,

plus one module from

Insurance and Banking, French, Spanish ab initio.

 

* Examinations in this area require a significant level of speed and accuracy in processing language-based information and, therefore, may prove difficult for a student with a specific learning difficulty e.g. dyslexia.

Progression

Holders of the qualification are eligible to apply to join a Bachelor of Business (Level 7) programme at AIT.
