This course contains business knowledge and skills which form the basis for a career in industry, commerce or the public service. You will gain an understanding of the functional areas of business and of the factors which influence business success.
On graduation, you should be able to use your knowledge and skills to solve technical and human problems in a business/commercial context. You will also learn how effective interpersonal relations at work contribute to the public image of an organisation and to its progress. Development of your communication skills also forms part of the course. Holders of the higher certificate may apply to join the Bachelor of Business (Level 7) programme at AIT.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate
Grade D3 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate examination. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish).
FETAC
Any FETAC level 5 qualification is acceptable; there are no specific module requirements.

Financial Accounting, Computer Applications, Economics, Marketing, Learning to Learn.
Year 1 – Semester 2
Financial Accounting, Quantitative Techniques, Business Management,
plus one module from
Insurance and Banking, European Studies, French, Spanish ab initio.
Year 2 – Semester 1
Management Accounting, IT and Computer Applications,
plus one module from
Financial Accounting, Operations Management, Applied Economics
Year 2 – Semester 2
Marketing Management, Human Resource Management
plus one module from
Services Marketing, Analysis of Financial Institutions, E-business, Insurance and Banking, International Economics, French, Spanish ab initio.
Progression
As a holder of this qualification you will be eligible to apply to join the Bachelor of Business (Level 7) programme at AIT. Alternatively, you may avail of the exemptions granted by one of the professional accountancy bodies and apply for full-time accountancy studies at AIT.
