If you’re an adult learner and wish to embark on a career in social care, engineering, hospitality, business, science or information technology – this is the course for you. The Foundation Certificate provides an ideal base if you wish to return to study after a break in your educational experience and if you have not benefited fully from, or had access to, previous educational opportunities.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Candidates under 21 years on 1 January of the year of entry are required to have Grade D3 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate examination, including Mathematics and a language (English of Irish).

Mature applicants, aged 22 years or over on 1 January on year of commencement, who do not possess the Leaving Certificate are also eligible to apply. The selection procedure may involve an interview.

Modules

Communications and Study Skills, Mathematics, Information Technology, Educational Guidance, Business Studies and Finance, Social Studies, Science, Engineering.

Note: A student may only attend the institute for one complete cycle of this programme.

Progression

Successful completion of this programme allows you to apply for entry to higher certificate programmes at AIT. You may also be eligible to apply for entry onto the first year of a suitable ordinary degree programme.
