The role of pharmacists is constantly evolving from its traditional function to a more patient-centred approach. In parallel, pharmacy technicians’ role is also changing, where they are required to bring new competencies that are complementary to the pharmacy practice itself.

This BSc in Clinical Pharmacy Practice (Level 7) will provide pharmacy technicians with an opportunity to advance their role in the pharmacy practice from operations support to team player, with an integrated key role in the management of the pharmacy practice. The degree provides additional skills to the pharmacy technician in the areas of clinical pharmacy, medicines management, purchasing, clinical governance, ethics and aseptic practices.

This degree will enable the pharmacy technician to significantly contribute to the pharmacy setting, both from a clinical and management perspective. It is envisaged that upon completion of this course the pharmacy technician will be appropriately equipped to lessen the workload of the pharmacist by taking on the business-related tasks, assisting with decision-making process in relation to practice management and clinical issues, while supporting and enhancing the quality of the healthcare provision.

A unique part of this programme is the work placement, which will enable you to gain valuable experience of the culture, nature and structure of a working environment in the field.

Progression

As a graduate of this degree, you may be eligible to pursue a Level 8 qualification in a health science domain, for example, health management.
