This add-on Level 7 degree will educate and train skilled personnel in the area of mechanical engineering, management, control and maintenance as applied to industrial settings. It will equip you to work as an independent thinker and to work effectively with others, recognising the importance of continuing education and self-directed learning.
As a graduate, you will have the capability to critically appraise mechanical engineering systems, to identify areas of potential improvement, to bring about corrective action and where applicable, to suggest and implement an alternative solution. You will also study and work to high ethical standards with regard to the engineering profession and environment.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Higher Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or an approved Level 6 qualification.

Mechanical Engineering Project, Quantitative Methods, Control and Automation, Mechanical Systems Design, Energy Systems and Thermofluids, Business and Project Management, Engineering Mathematics, Control and Automation, Systems Design and Vibrations, Manufacturing Systems and Organisation Management.
Progression
As a holder of this qualification, you will possess the necessary theoretical underpinning to enable progression to the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Integrated Manufacturing Systems at AIT. You will also be in a position to apply for Level 8 programmes offered in other third level institutions.

As a graduate from this degree, you will be in a position to apply for a variety of mechanical engineering roles in the following areas: in private industry – designing, developing, manufacturing and maintaining products, equipment and machinery of all kinds; as a consulting engineer – work may include building services, mechanical engineering, design; and in private industry and semi-state bodies – power generation, transport, environmental technologies, etc. The institute would expect that graduates will gain membership status with the relevant professional bodies and that many of the top graduates will ultimately reach a high level within the engineering sectors as well as progressing to further studies.
